For very many years a best seller, Cyril Freezer's classic collection of model railway track plans has been revised and redrawn to take account of the changes and developments in both real and model railways which have occurred during that time. Over thirty plans are drawn and described, ranging in size from 8' 6" x 6'6" through to 10' 6" right up to 16' 8". The author gives due consideration to the spatial and temporal constraints which modern lifestyles bring to bear on the model railway hobby, e.g. how to build a layout in the garage and still leave room for the car!
Thought is also given to the ways in which the prototype railway development affects model railway design, and such subjects as train lengths, bi-directional running, diesel depots etc., are discussed. Traditionalist and readers of the first edition will delight in the knowledge that the plan based in Exeter Central (pre-Beeching) is still included.
Although the plans have been designed with 4mm OO gauge in mind, many of them will provide much inspiration for working in other scales.
